About me

I’ve been a freelancer my whole career, from photography to filmmaking. My resume is on LinkedIn. What matters here is what my long career informs who I think would be interesting to feature and why.

As freelancers we are always watching how the game is changing so that we can be ready. I’m fascinated by the changes that are happening and how we are adapting to those changes.

My own career was solid, in the middle tier of the industry, I’ve always loved the creative process and happy to get paid to do it full time but eager to improve. That’s why in Season 1, I wanted to talk to the people at the top tier: photographers with international careers, working for the major magazines who I could learn from.

Most advice online comes from people who haven’t done the work at that level. If you’re looking for advice, these are the people to get it from. And even if you don’t want to be a portrait photographer, if your work involves photographing/ filming people, there’s a lot to learn from them.

About the process

If I’ve just cold called you and you’re wondering what’s involved, it can be as little as a Zoom call or as much as a week with you in the studio or on a project.

The usual shape is a half-day shoot where I film you candidly as you work. Once you’ve done a rough edit, we sit down for a couple of hours, look at what you shot and talk about the shoot in terms to your creative process.

If you’ve published books or films, those can become separate films. We’d set aside an hour or so to talk about them on camera. They make good single-subject shorts for Instagram and TikTok.
